Bocce Rules

AEICA Bocce Tournament

  1. Each game begins with either a coin toss or a game of rock-paper-scissors to determine which team goes first.
  2. The team that wins the toss throws the pallina to start the game. The pallina may be rolled or tossed, provided it passes the centre line of the court and remains within the court boundaries.
  3. The player who throws the pallina must also deliver the first bocce ball.
  4. Teams then alternate throws until all balls have been played.
  5. Once both teams have played all of their balls, the end is complete and points are awarded.
  6. Scoring is determined from the inside out, similar to curling. The team with the ball closest to the pallina scores one point for each ball that is closer than the opposing team's nearest ball.
  7. For teams of four, two players will be stationed at each end of the court and will remain at that end for the entire game. Players will alternate throws, with each player throwing two balls per end.
  8. Games are played to 10 points or until the 20-minute time limit has been reached. If time expires during an end, that end must be completed before the winner is determined.
  9. The winning team is responsible for reporting the final score. Points for and against may be used to determine playoff standings.
